Bush Nominee Blocked After He Pushes $30B Tax Break for Wal-Mart
Last week, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) grilled White House budget director nominee Jim Nussle at Nussle's Senate confirmation hearing. The interchange, which you can watch here, was absolutely extraordinary. Sanders forced Nussle to go on record admitting that at a time the White House is trying to prevent better-funding children's health care programs, he supports giving the members of Wal-Mart's Walton family alone a tax break worth more than $30 billion. Now, just today, the Associated Press reports that Sanders is using his filibuster power to block Nussle's nomination, putting his entire confirmation in jeopardy. "President Bush is completely out of touch with the economic realities facing working families, said Sanders, announcing his filibuster. He needs a budget director who will make him face the facts, not his fantasies.
The White House is demanding that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid schedule a floor vote immediately so that Nussle can be confirmed before the congressional recess. Get in touch with Reid by calling his office at 202-224-3542. Tell him not to buckle - and not to let the Senate confirm as the nation's top budget official an extremist like Nussle who thinks its a better idea to give the Walton family a $30 billion tax break than to fully fund children's health care programs.

Anybody want to take any bets that it won't matter whether this guy is confirmed before the recess because Bush will just appoint him as a recess appointment?
Recess appointment as usual. If Reid had any brains he'd keep those senators in session to prevent it. After all we have a war going on and men dying, so WTF are those politicians thinking by going on summer vacation? all I can say the Democrats are not serious about the Iraq war, its just another game for them to play.
Forgot to add, isn't it sad that not one Democratic senator had the nerve to filibuster nussel.
Its really shows the lack of guts among Democrats and makes them look weak and terrified of Bush.
What a joke of a system. I can't believe anyone would be surprised that it caters to those that have. People that have not should be last, so they can be first in heaven. Just in case anybody forgot, the system in charge is representative corporate dictatorship. People don't count. Children are people.

Bush immoral Bush tax cuts could have instead been re-directed to Infrastructure and created jobs and wealth and we'd have something to show for it in the end but no we need to support our suffering Billionaires..!

That's why I sent money to Sanders. It isn't just getting Democrats elected but getting the right ones elected. Maybe the Democratic candidates for president can join him if they're not too busy trolling for Walmart dollars.
